Becoming a Freelance Lawyer – Montage Highlighted in National Law Review Article

May 12, 2022

By Laurie Rowen

We are so honored that the National Law Review highlighted Montage Legal Group in its recent article, “Becoming a Freelance Lawyer: The Pros, Cons, and How to Get Started” (The National Law Review, Volume XII, Number 132, May 12, 2022).  The article discusses how recent studies show there has been “a dramatic increase in people striking out independently and going freelance.” The Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the freelance boom, specifically for highly educated workers — such as lawyers.

This informative article lists multiple benefits of becoming a freelance lawyer (setting your schedule, setting your capacity, getting to choose your projects, and working from anywhere with internet), but reminds freelance lawyers that they need a tolerance for risk: “As a freelance lawyer, you can choose your clients, set your rates, and work from home (or anywhere else in the world). It sounds ideal, but it takes some planning and a high tolerance for risk.”

There are many ways to obtain remote projects from law firms, but the article reiterates that “more than 70% of freelancers find jobs through online markets, gig economy websites, and freelance platforms.” Montage is listed as an excellent resource for freelance lawyers, and is distinguished from other platforms based on its highly credentialed and high caliber of freelance lawyers:

Montage Legal Group offers clients the opportunity to choose an attorney with an extensive law and judicial practice background. Montage Legal is an excellent freelance legal website with a high entry barrier. The website connects [freelance] lawyers who hold high academic credentials and graduate degrees at universities, including Harvard Law and Georgetown Law, to [other] lawyers.

Montage is well-known for its high entry barrier as the article indicates, and unlike many other freelance platforms, freelance lawyers go through an interview process prior to being selected to join Montage.  Now more than ever, given the massive influx of law firms and legal departments seeking help from freelance lawyers, we are actively seeking freelance lawyers to join our platform. If you are interested in becoming a freelance lawyer, we’d love to schedule an interview with you! Please send resumes to [email protected].
