Montage Legal Group Alumni, Julie Hamill, published an article in Culture Magazine titled “Cryptic Coinage.” The article examines cryptocurrency as a potential solution to the banking crisis in the cannabis industry. It discusses SEC and IRS treatment of cryptocurrency, the risks involved in using and investing in cryptocurrency, and concludes that cryptocurrency, for now, is too risky and volatile to be a viable banking solution.
For a cryptocurrency to be viable, it must be wildly accepted and used by nearly all players in the business network. In the cannabis space that includes customers, retailers, cultivators, manufacturers, landlords, attorneys, doctors and taxing agencies.
