The Orange County Bar Association’s newest Committee, “Mommy, Esq.,” is sponsoring its first MCLE program on October 30, 2012 at the Newport Beach Radisson Hotel. This exciting and timely program – Recruiting and Retaining Lawyers with Children: Bias, Employment Law, and Good Business – offers one hour of Elimination of Bias specialty credit.
The panel will feature Ellen Darling, equity partner at K&L Gates, and Marie DiSante, managing partner at Carothers, DiSante & Freudenberger. Montage Legal Group’s Erin Giglia will serve as moderator. The panel will share obstacles they have faced and overcome during their legal careers and will discuss the various federal and state laws which protect employees and, more specifically, employees with children, expectant mothers, and new parents.
Because businesses often request and may be required to hire minority and women-owned firms and counsel, law firms everywhere must determine best practices to attract and retain their top talent. Please attend this fun and informative event, and receive your specialty credit!

Ellen Darling is national products liability litigation counsel for Irvine-based pharmaceutical, biologic and medical-device company Allergan, Inc. Ellen Darling, and her team, have tried four cases involving BOTOX® and BOTOX® Cosmetic since January 2010 alone, three of which went to verdict with arguably all but one resulting in ultimately a successful result. Ellen Darling has extensive trial experience in the defense of complex civil actions in state and federal courts. Darling currently focuses her practice on primarily products liability litigation involving prominent pharmaceutical, medical device, and other life sciences companies. She also has handled and tried numerous other products liability cases as lead counsel along with managing medical malpractice cases for health care providers and medical laboratories.
Marie DiSante began her legal career at Latham & Watkins in 1988 and then, with big law under her belt and an entrepreneurial spirit, Marie went on to form Carothers DiSante & Freudenberger LLP in 1994, a boutique California law firm specializing exclusively in representing employers in labor, employment and business immigration law. The firm has grown to nearly 40 attorneys in five offices throughout the State. Marie’s practice focuses on helping employers prevent and resolve employment disputes, and on defending employers when they get sued for anything falling under the employment law umbrella, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leave violations, wrongful termination, and wage and hour violations, in both single plaintiff and class action matters.
